The Dewey decimal classification is a cataloguing method developed by an american librarian, Melvil Dewey, in the late 19th century, attempting to organize all knowledge into ten classes, split into ten divisions further separated into ten sections. Other systems include the Library of congress decimal classification, the Chinese Library Classification, the Nippon Library Classification and the Universal decimal classification.
